An ox drinking / Um boi a beber

In one of my recent visits to the mountain villages of the Alto Minho, again I had the opportunity to be amazed by the presence of cattle walking in the village streets and its surroundings, apparently free. Despite its size and appearance, these are calm and docile animals, which in some places still go up for the mountain pastures for a full-time stay between May and September, under the supervision of "vezeiros," cattle shepherds that alternate between the livestock owners.

Very interesting that they are given so much freedom. This turned out so well, Paulo. I like the two curious watchers and the rough exterior of the building.

I don't know if it's truth, but I was told once that they can even find their way home without help.
These mountain villages have very severe weather conditions, and even now that you can find modern houses there, the most traditional ones, made of granite and seldom painted or whitewashed, always have this simple appearance, just as rough as the mountains themselves.
